Glenyeluu Community Site #3, Whynor Town Site 1, Garr-Bain, Nimba, Liberia

In Glenyeluu Community Site #3, 450 residents faced a daily struggle for water. Their only hand pump was broken and could no longer meet their needs. Families resorted to four hand-dug wells, but these often ran dry—and when they did provide water, it was unsafe. Illness from waterborne diseases became a harsh reality.

With no way to repair the hand pump themselves, community members feared their water challenges would never end. Then a local leader reached out to our team for help. After assessing the situation, we committed to rehabilitating the well.

Our staff dredged the well shaft to a depth of nine meters until they reached a safe aquifer. They cased the well, installed a submersible pump, built a sanitary platform, and enclosed the site with a protective wall. Water quality tests confirmed: the water was safe to drink.

Now, Glenyeluu has clean, reliable water again. To ensure sustainability, the community formed a water committee to oversee maintenance and collect small contributions for future repairs. Families also participated in hygiene training, learning safe water handling, disease prevention, and how to build tippy taps for handwashing.

For the first time in years, water access is no longer stressful or unsafe. Children can grow up healthier, and families can plan their days without fear of illness. Glenyeluu is moving from survival to stewardship—leading their own future of safe water.
