As far as birthday presents go, Weathermatic CEO Mike Mason received one of the most memorable gifts of his life, last week. Born and raised in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Mason has been a University of Southern Mississippi Golden Eagle fan from birth. He was Head Cheerleader from 1982 to 1985 and a member of Phi Kappa Tau while studying for his degree in Marketing. Mason was honored with USM’s Alumnus of the Year Golden Eagle award in a ceremony on November 20, the day before his birthday.
As an added surprise, Mason was also inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma – the professional business honor society – as the first professional non-student inductee in USM history. After the award ceremony, Mason emailed his team, “I was surprised and humbled to be inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma. I owe this all to you. No one could ask for a better support system.”
Mason was recognized for his successful career in telecommunications and the green industry and his commitment to solving the global water crisis through Weathermatic’s Save Water | Give Life program. In addition to his career pursuits, Mason serves on the Advisory Board for Living Water International, the largest organization drilling clean water wells in Third World countries around the globe. He has also served 18 years on the Board of Directors for Freedom Alliance, an educational and charitable organization that provides scholarships for children of fallen military personnel.
Dr. Faye Gilbert, dean of the College of Business, praised Mason, “Mike Mason’s work ethic as CEO is balanced by a strong and genuine commitment to give back to world through cutting edge innovations for his industry,” she said.
